The NID Entrance Exam 2026 (NID DAT – Design Aptitude Test) is one of India’s most prestigious design entrance examinations conducted by the National Institute of Design (NID) for admission into Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Master of Design (M.Des) programs.

The exam evaluates a candidate’s creativity, visual imagination, observation skills, problem-solving ability, design thinking, and drawing skills. The admission process consists of two stages: DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

Students preparing for NID 2026 must focus on:

NID Exam Pattern 2026

The NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is conducted in two stages: DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

Note:
DAT Prelims is only a screening test. Marks are not counted in the final merit list and are used only to shortlist candidates for DAT Mains.

NID Eligibility Criteria 2026

B.Des (Bachelor of Design)

Criteria Requirements
Qualification Passed or appearing in 10+2 (any stream) from a recognized board
Eligible Streams Science / Commerce / Arts / Humanities
Selection Process DAT Prelims → DAT Mains
Age Limit Maximum age 20 years for General/EWS/OBC (born on or after 1 July 2005) and 23 years for SC/ST/PwD

Students appearing in their Class 12 examination in 2026 are also eligible to apply.


M.Des (Master of Design)

Criteria Requirements
Qualification Bachelor’s degree (minimum 3 years) in any discipline
Eligible Candidates Final-year students can also apply
Selection Process DAT Prelims → DAT Mains → Interview / Portfolio
Age Limit Maximum 30 years for General/EWS/OBC and 33 years for SC/ST/PwD
